Laszlo Boats New Zealand has released the following statement regarding the recent purchase of KIRS:
"As you may know, KIRS has gone into receivership and long-time KIRS boatbuilder Laszlo Kertesz has purchased it. We will be continuing to trade under the name of Laszlo Boats New Zealand and intend to honour any commitments that the former ownership has made in regard to boats now under construction. Although all deposits have been lost in the receivership process, we intend to renegotiate all contracts, now technically void, to the mutually agreed satisfaction of all involved.
Laszlo, as you may know, has been KIRS's main builder since 2006. He had previously been the chief constructor at Pornyeszi Kayaks in Budapest, Hungary since 2003, and has also been the sole owner and boatbuilder of Wicked Kayaks in Cambridge, New Zealand since 2008. He is an experienced specialist in all aspects of the construction of high-performance and recreational kayaks and rowing skiffs, from design to delivery, using fibreglass, polyester resin, gelcoat, and high-tech carbon fibre lamination.
This assures you that Laszlo Boats will continue to produce boats of equal or better quality and longevity to those produced by what has been New Zealand's premier boat manufacturer, and will continuously take this iconic company forward with improvements in design and technology whilst building upon our record of success at the national, international, and Olympic levels.
Laszlo Boats is also committed to improving the company's focus on the rowing community's needs and demands and to lifting its game in regard to customer service and to listening to you, our customers, and understanding your individual requirements.
